october 10, 2011 in humanity singularity (as some propose it) – is when technology and human understanding will double every hour. essentially it is when the human race has advanced so far that we become all-powerful, everlasting, omniscient and omnipresent. all-powerful – we become so powerful that we can travel intergalactically whether its physical travel or we transfer our consciousness through computer networks already established throughout the universe. everlasting – through the regeneration of physical tissue or the replacing of our entire bodily systems. this includes downloading our consciousness, memories and personality onto another non-biologically brain.some people today are already freezing themselves in hopes of future generations being able to revive them ( alcor ). omniscient – super computers today can calculate an unbelievable amount of equations in a second. japan currently has the most powerful system which they call k computer. it can make 8.162 systems, including our brain. omnipresent – those who believe strongly in the implications of singularity hold that what we constitute as “self” is nothing more than information. our bodies and minds are just vessels for that information. as we reach singularity we will be able to switch to various vessels at the speed of light and therefore travel wherever we desire within a moments time. the reality of singularity – technology and human understanding will continue to rise and become closer to the point where we would be like god. however, being like god would not mean we are god, create god or become god upon reaching singularity. very-powerful – even if we reached singularity, we would not be all-powerful. we would still be limited to the constraints of time, space and the amount of energy god has placed within our grasp. we would be very powerful but we would still be at the mercy of nature and ultimately god. one catastrophic event could wipe us out. ever-lasting – to think that we could be ever-lasting is naive. as we know well, the universe is expanding and and has a fixed amount of matter and energy. that energy is potential energy and according to thermodynamics all matter and energy are becoming less useful. this means that in the beginning when god created, he wound up the universe (see god is the pitcher and catcher ) and now through entropy, it is unwinding. we already see the implications of this through looking at areas where there is almost no matter or energy. these areas are 2.7 kelvins (-270 celsius or 3.15 degrees celsius away from absolute zero – thermodynamics ). this is the fate of a dying universe. this is the fate of those who want to become god rather than submit to and love him. omniscient – making calculations or obtaining new information always involves some amount of time, no matter how small. characteristically, god knows all things and is outside the bounds of time. this means he knows all things and understands all things during every moment we experience (experiential time). even if we had an unimaginable amount of memory storage and could access and calculate that storage in the quadrillions per second, it would still take some time. we would also be limited, once again, by the bounds of the amount of matter and energy within our grasp. even in being very powerful, living very long and having vast knowledge, we could never create more matter or energy than what is before us. we could becoming somewhat like god (which was the original point anyways) but we will never become god. having such a desire is blasphemy – exodus 20:3, deuteronomy 5:7 . omnipresent – this is another naive notion, that we could be everywhere at once. even if we had obtained the technology to transfer our bodies or consciousness at the speed of light we would be limited once again by the bounds of space and time. trying to get to even the nearest star (aside from our sun) – proxima centauri – would take 4.24 years . the idea that we could be everywhere at once because we could travel really fast is an exaggeration of the truth. singularity will become the ultimate defense and fate of science. the human species will continue to advance and as it does it will feel less and less inclined to care or want god. it is because the more we advance the more we feel in control of the world around us. as we advance, our morality erodes. there will be a day when the technology we create parallels and in some cases supersedes natural technology/nature. it is when that happens that we will ultimately trade morality for our desires. we will desire advancement, pleasure, longevity, convenience and “self” above all else. this is what i call the trading point. i will cover the trading point and morality in first understand what finite and infinite means. when something is finite, it has a beginning and an end. it is something that can be measured. it is something that was, is or will be. when something is infinite it has no beginning or end. it cannot be measured and always was, always is and always will be. we can say that something infinite simply “is” because there is no moment when you can say that it was not or will not be, therefore every “moment” for something that is characteristically infinite, is. when thinking about how finite time fits within an infinite reality, it is usually viewed as a section of finite time being placed on top of the needed section of infinite time. this places a measure of time onto the infinite reality. this view is not quite right. the reason is because infinity always is. therefore, at no point can there be a point or a section of points, to which the block of time we understand to exist, be placed. viewing infinity as a line that never has a beginning and never ends is like trying to view the characteristics of a liquid with something solid. viewing infinity as a never ending line leads to the thinking that you can actually be at some point on that line. this is the result of a human perspective that can only see things through the lens and understanding of everything that we experience being measurable by time. this image helps paint a clearer picture. we cannot describe infinity with a line because it has no beginning and has no end. it does not stretch back forever and forward forever. as stated above, a line would suggest being able to be placed at some point on the line. infinity is not a line as we understand time is, rather it just exists. it just is. if we were within an infinite reality (which we are but can only comprehend the finite reality) then what we experience is and that’s all. we experience time because we do not have the capacity to understand the infinite reality. the power to do so transcends us. there are three qualifiers for comprehending the infinite reality: first and most obvious is that the being in question must be an infinite being, they must have the capacity to understand it and
